55th River Glade International Weekend on Deck at Petty August 21, 2019 Regional RIVER GLADE, NB – One of Canada’s oldest stock car races will have another chapter written into its history this weekend at Petty International Raceway. The Jones Auto Body River Glade International, in its 55th running in 2019, will take place at the high banked quarter-mile this Friday, August 23rd and Saturday, August 24th. Six unique stock car racing divisions will take to the track over the two days, anchored by Friday evening’s Jones Auto Body 100 for the AE McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman and Saturday’s Cummins 200 for the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour. Friday’s racing action goes green at 7 pm with Saturday’s action kicking off at 6 pm. Last year, Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake, NS) scored the biggest win of his career in the Jones Auto Body River Glade International. Veinotte picked a perfect time to warm up in August. Leading into this race, Veinotte has won the Bumper to Bumper Summer Shootout including the 100-lap feature on August 3rd, the most recent AE McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman feature on August 17th and now has the edge in the point standings. While Veinotte will have a target on his back, he will have pressure from behind from previous 2019 feature winners including Marcel LeBlanc (Bouctouche, NB), Neal Crawford (Salisbury, NB) and former River Glade International champion Laurie Cormier (Riverview, NB). Kenny MacKenzie Jr (Salisbury, NB) and Justin Beers (Moncton, NB) chase Veinotte in the AE McKay Builders Late Model point standings and have a combined five second-place finishes in 2019 in point competition but have yet to crack victory lane. Could the River Glade International be a season changer for these two young guns?! They will all be tested by Hall of Famer Frank Fraser (Shubenacadie, NS), who will race for his seventh River Glade International title on Friday evening during the Jones Auto Body Sportsman 100. Fraser has made select starts in 2019 and has had this event circled on his calendar since the season began. Ryan Richard (Saint John, NB) became a first-time winner in the Street Stock division at Petty International Raceway last weekend. Richard is the fourth different driver in seven races to score a feature win and with the victory, he moves to second in the point standings behind reigning champion Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB). Cormier’s car has raced to victory lane four times in 2019 so far and would love nothing more than to add another trophy in the Jones Auto Body River Glade International to their trophy case. The Mister Transmission Mini Stock division will race twice during the Jones Auto Body River Glade International. Not only will they compete on Friday’s opening night, but they are also scheduled to run on Saturday on the undercard for the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour Cummins 200. Last time out, the division saw JR Lawson (Shubenacadie, NS) pick up his fourth feature win last Saturday evening. With Trevor Smith (Windsor, NS) owning the other two feature victories, the two drivers have to be the favorites heading into a doubleheader weekend. Prior to drop races being factored in, Rob Poirier (Irishtown, NB) leads the standings as he looks to repeat as champion. Poirier is coming off a second-place run one week ago. Grandstand admission prices for Friday are $20 for adults and $10 for youth aged eight to 18, while children seven years of age and under will be admitted free. Pit admission is $25 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Pit gates for competitors open at 4 pm, grandstand gates open for spectators at 5 pm with racing getting underway at 7 pm. The Leisure Days RV Bandoleros have seen domination in recent rounds by Colton Noble (Upper Nine Mile River, NS) and Ayden Christensen (Windsor Junction, NS). Noble has won all but one of the six regular point races for the Bandit/Outlaw division in 2019 while Christensen has pocketed three of the last four feature wins in the Beginner Bandolero class. Chase MacKay (Bear Cove, NS) and Kelsea Lewis (Salisbury, NB) play chase in their respective classes but will have to get up on the wheel on Saturday afternoon should they want to wrestle away a season-long championship heading into the month of September.
