Introduction

Laurie Roué and the 'Golden Hawk' (1969).

The ‘Golden Hawk’ (1969).

CheckersToWreckers.com was launched May 1, 2006 – published by a lifelong fan of stock car racing who became addicted to the sport at a very young age watching her father race the Golden Hawk at tracks throughout the Maritimes.

It is, in many ways, a labour of love for us as we strive to bring you reliable stock car racing news from our region (Maritime Provinces of Canada), as well as from NASCAR’s premiere national series, and beyond.

Our extensive coverage is made possible through contacts we’ve made and maintained over the past 25+ years, both regionally and in the NASCAR ranks.

This is not our first endeavour in motorsports publishing – in the mid to late 90s we published a tabloid-style monthly newspaper called ‘Stock Car Scene’. Before that we  published the first NASCAR fan handbook; it was called ‘Let’s Go Racin’. And, over the past several years, we have published a variety of websites and souvenir program magazines for racers, race tracks and sanctioning bodies in the Maritimes, including that for one of the premiere stock car races in Canada – the IWK 250 at Riverside International Speedway.

Dedication

Scott Fraser & the 'Fans of Fraser' car.

Scott Fraser & the ‘Fans of Fraser’ car.

The name for our site came from our good friend, the late Scott Fraser.

Often, in the closing laps of a race, if he knew he had a car that could win but wasn’t leading yet, he would decide it was going to be either “Checkers or Wreckers.”

The image used in the background of this page is a car Scott raced to win the 1997 NTN Bearings 200 at Scotia Speedworld – it was the epitomy of ‘Checkers To Wreckers.’ After crashing on the last lap of the first half Scott returned to the track with this car, started at the back of the pack, and won !

We lost Scott March 20, 2004 – the victim of a tragic snowmobile accident; this website is forever dedicated to Scott’s memory in hopes we can provide even a small percentage of the racing entertainment he provided for us.

To learn more about Scott Fraser please visit a legacy site in his memory at www.scottfraseronline.com.
