INEX Qualifiers on Deck For Legends Tour

The Maritime League of Legends Tour is back in action with a double bill of INEX sanctioned racing on Saturday evening. Prince Edward Island’s Oyster Bed Speedway will play host to Round Two of the touring Legend division with the Island ICF Incorporated 50 while the Bandolero division will join the Maritime League of Legends Tour for a 20-lap feature. Both events will serve as INEX National Qualifiers, marking the first INEX National Qualifiers in Atlantic Canada on the 2019 calendar. The Maritime League of Legends Tour and Bandolero racing action is a part of a card that is anchored by the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour’s fifth round for the year. Racing action at Oyster Bed Speedway begins at 6pm on Saturday, June 29th.

The Island ICF Incorporated 50 is the first of two regional qualifiers for INEX Asphalt Nationals on the Maritime League of Legends Tour schedule in 2019. The top finishing Pro, Master, Semi-Pro and Young Lion driver in the field at Oyster Bed Speedway on Saturday will not only win a cash bonus from Fleet Brake Atlantic, they will become eligible for a provisional starting spot in Asphalt Nationals. The 50-lap feature at Speedway 660 on Saturday, August 31st will serve as the second regional qualifier for the Maritime League of Legends Tour. INEX Asphalt Nationals takes place from October 17th to 19th at Bobby Watson’s Carteret County Speedway in Swansboro, North Carolina.

Braden Langille (Shubenacadie, NS) enters Saturday’s Island ICF Incorporated 50 as the point leader on the Maritime League of Legends Tour. Langille won the Season Opener on June 1st at Scotia Speedworld in convincing fashion. Langille has four feature wins this season in Legend competition in the Maritimes, including one house division win at Oyster Bed Speedway earlier this month. Langille believes the laps at Oyster Bed Speedway with the new FZ09 motor will help his No. 51 Velocity Machining and Welding/AK Performance team with this weekend’s 50-lap affair.

“These last couple weeks of racing at Oyster Bed Speedway have really been a test of us to build towards Saturday’s race and help support their local Legend class,” said Langille when discussing his last two races at the Island oval. “Saturday’s race is big. We are already thinking about going to run INEX Asphalt Nationals in October. Winning the Island ICF Incorporated 50 and having that eligibility for a provisional in our back pockets would be a great feeling!”

Scotia Speedworld regular Andrew Lively (Middle Sackville, NS) is second in the standings after one event and is looking at making the trip to Oyster Bed Speedway on Saturday to back up his runner-up finish from the Season Opener. “Miss Rawdon Rocket” Emily Meehan (Rawdon, NS), multiple time Canada East Masters champion Paul Goulden (Shelburne, NS) and defending Maritime League of Legends Tour champion and former Oyster Bed Speedway race winner Shelby Baker (Fall River, NS) round out the top five in the Series standings heading into Race Two.

The two Maritime League of Legends Tour events at Oyster Bed Speedway in 2018 were owned by Cory Hall Racing. Craig MacDonald (Waverley, NS) is the reigning champion of the Island ICF Incorporated 50 while Cory Hall (Jolicure, NB) scored a convincing victory last August at the 1/3-mile oval. MacDonald’s season opener didn’t go as he had planned but will have a sixth place finish from four weeks ago at Scotia Speedworld to build on.

With Oyster Bed Speedway hosting a house division for Legend cars in 2019, it is expected that several home track drivers will test their skills against the Maritime League of Legends Tour. Ten drivers have taken to the track over the last three house races at Oyster Bed Speedway with Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow, NS) picking up the feature win the last time the track hosted a race on June 23rd.

For the second time in Series history, the Maritime League of Legends Tour will bring the Bandolero division to the race track. The 20-lap feature will act as a National Qualifier and play a key role when it comes to INEX National Points. When it comes to INEX National Points, Owen Mahar (Hubley, NS) leads the Canada East Outlaw standings but with Danny Chisholm (Canning, NS) only 15 points behind the No. 66 as of press time, this race could be pivotal in the season long standings power struggle. Of note, Chisholm will do double duty this weekend and will make his Maritime League of Legends Tour debut in the Island ICF Incorporated 50. Enfield, Nova Scotia’s Gage Gilby is the leader in Canada East Bandit points, sitting 19th overall in the International Bandit East INEX points.

With several Prince Edward Island based teams, led by Tanton Wooldridge (Summerside, PE), eager to challenge the best youngsters in Atlantic Canada, the Maritime League of Legends Tour Bandolero National Qualifier is expected to be one of the most hotly contested races on Saturday evening’s card.

The Island ICF Incorporated Legend 50 and Bandolero National Qualifiers at Oyster Bed Speedway is the second of ten races on the 2019 season for the Maritime League of Legends Tour. Also included on the Saturday, June 30th card is the fifth round for the Maritime Pro Stock Tour as they contest a 150-lap feature presented by Parts for Trucks and a 50-lap Oyster Bed Speedway Outlaw event. Racing action gets under way with qualifying races for feature events at 6pm. Tickets are available at the gate on race day.
