Cole Butcher picked up the biggest win of his racing career Sunday night in the Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine. Butcher bested over 60 entries and a 42-car starting grid to win one of the most revered short track races in North America. Butcher, from Hantsport NS, won over $25,000 for the victory.

Unofficial race results show Eddie MacDonald second and Gabe Brown third with Johnny Clark and Max Goodson rounding out the top five. Clark led the race until two to go with Butcher hot on his trail – Clark spun after Butcher got into him as the two were winding through lapped traffic.

With the win Butcher becomes the first Nova Scotia resident to win the Oxford 250, joining Jr. Hanley as the only two Nova Scotia natives to win the iconic race (Hanley had moved to Ontario by the time he won the race). Butcher is the first Canadian driver to win the race since Dave Whitlock’s victory in 1995. A Nova Scotia team, King Racing, won the Oxford 250 last year with Maine’s Cassius Clark at the wheel; this year’s results show them as 38th after dropping out of the race early.

Butcher started 20th on the field and worked his way into the top 10 by lap 85. The majority of the lead lap cars, including Butcher, pitted on lap 102. By lap 142 he was in the top five and in the top three by lap 220 and on lap 227 moved into second.

This is Butcher’s third Pro All Star Series win with the first coming at Petty International Raceway in 2018 and the second in a 150 at Oxford earlier this year. Butcher is a two-time champion of the East Coast International Pro Stock Tour where he has numerous race wins.
