MIRAMICHI, NB – After capping off a thrilling 50th Anniversary season in 2018, Speedway Miramichi management are pleased a tentative 2019 schedule of events.

A schedule similar to that of last year, currently 5 stock car racing/demolition events are slated to be held at the 1/3-mile oval. Each event will play host to racing in the Atlantic Modified, Street Stock, Mini Stock, and Dukes divisions, along with the popular Demolition events!

“We are excited to continue the tradition of racing and demolitions on the Miramichi,” owner Barry Richard said. “We want to continue to keep this place going as long as Miramichi will support it. The ending to our 50th Anniversary Season in 2018 was very positive and we hope to carry that momentum and support into the 2019 season.”

The calendar kicks off on the Victoria Day long weekend, with the Spring Smash on Sunday May 19th! The Sunday afternoon season opener will be the start of the 2019 points chase across all divisions commence, with features scheduled for the Street Stock, Modified, Mini Stock, and Dukes divisions, in addition to the Spring Smash demo. Marc-Andre Benoit won the 2018 edition of the Spring Smash.

June 15th will mark the first ever Kid’s Day at Speedway Miramichi! As school begins to wind down for the young ones, a special event is being planned that promises to be one of the most memorable events at the track in 2019. The event, which will wrap up with the Kids Day Demolition, will also be highlighted by the 2nd running of the Mini Stock Classic. This 50-lap feature for the Mini Stock division was won by Rob Poirier en route to his championship in 2018 and was one of the best races run all year with close quarters racing throughout the field. Mini Stock drivers can expect to compete for some big hardware for this race! All other racing divisions will also be on the June card.

The popular Day of 8’s will return to the speedway for the first time since 2016 on July 13th! This mid-summer classic under the lights is sure to heat things up on the only racetrack will a permanent paved Figure 8 around! While final plans are not certain, the Day of 8’s typically features a Figure 8 Enduro finale. Points battles will also heat up across all racing classes on this night, with regular features being scheduled for all racing divisions.

Action will resume at the track on September 14th with the Back to School Smash. In 2018, this event featured the biggest car count with over 33 Demo cars filling the pits. Trenton Silliker scored the victory in the Demolition that day. Co-headlining the September thriller will be an extended distance Atlantic Modified feature, tentatively scheduled for 50 laps! Brandon Skidmore drove to victory in the 2018 extended distance feature. This event will be the penultimate race for all divisions in 2019.

As has been the annual tradition, the season will wrap up with “The Very Best Fall Shootout!” Scheduled for October 5th, this event is set to once again play host to the top grassroots racing in Atlantic Canada, with a 100 lap Street Stock feature, a 50 lap Mini Stock feature, and the year end Demolition Blowout, in addition to racing from the Atlantic Modified Tour and Dukes class. The Very Best Fall Shootout will also crown champions for all divisions at the track. Luc McLaughlin won the 2018 Street Stock 100, while JR Lawson captured the Mini Stock 50.

Doug Matchett (Modifieds), Brad MacLean (Street Stock), Joey Pitre (Demolition), Rob Poirier (Mini Stock), and Robert Legere (Dukes) enter the 2019 season as the defending champions. Speedway Miramichi has been one of the fastest growing tracks in Atlantic Canada over the past year, and hopes are high that car counts will be at a level not seen since the mid-90’s in 2019.

Other special events, the 2019 banquet, as well as the Go Kart schedule for 2019 will be announced in the near future. Drivers should also note that a drivers meeting is in the works for within the next few weeks, to solidify the 2019 rules.

Speedway Miramichi also recently switched up domains for the 2019 season.

This schedule is very much subject to change, with the possibility of more events being added to the calendar for 2019. Watch for more exciting news coming in the near future!
