OYSTER BED BRIDGE, PE – The Eastern Super Mini Cup Series returns to action after a month break for the EMCO 20 at Oyster Bed Speedway on Saturday. The race is the fifth race of the seven race series and is the final event of the season at the Island track.

The last time the Eastern Super Mini Cup Series hit the track, it was rookie Jacob Dunlop (Hampton, PE) scoring his first career feature win with the Series. After coming close in the first three races of the season, Dunlop was able to pick up the Semi and the Michael Harvey Construction 20 on July 21st. Dunlop was able to close the gap in the standings and now sits just four points behind “Old Man” Donnie McNeil for second in the standings. McNeil won the second and third rounds of the season after mechanical problems hindered his progress during the Doc Dawson Enterprises 20 in May.

They all continue to chase Mark Ferguson (Saint John, NB) for the championship lead with three races to go. Ferguson, the 2016 Eastern Super Mini Cup Series champion, has a healthy and commanding 48 point lead on McNeil and the rest of the field heading into the EMCO 20 on Saturday evening. While no lead is safe, Ferguson would need to experience trouble for him to be brought back to the field over the next three rounds.

Randy Wilson has had a quiet rookie season but he finds himself well within the top five in points after four events. Wilson is 11 points out of second place in the standings and just seven points off Dunlop for top freshman honors in 2018. Behind Wilson by 17 points sits Dave Griffin.

Logan Dawson (Tyne Valley, PE), Kirk Sheasgreen (Miramichi, NB) and Jeremy Alexander (Summerside, PE) will also be in the field in search of the win in the EMCO 20. Dawson scored his first feature podium finish with the Series last month during the Michael Harvey Construction 20. Brodie Lewis (Charlottetown, PE) will be making his Series debut in the No. 12 car formerly campaigned by Mike Wood.

Fans are invited to stop by EMCO Charlottetown on Friday, August 24th for a barbeque featuring a number of the Eastern Super Mini Cup Series cars and stars. The event runs from 11 am to 1 pm at EMCO, 15 Riverside Drive in Charlottetown.

Adult grandstand admission price for Saturday night’s EMCO 20 is $17 (aged 16 and up), youth admission (aged eight to 15) is $5 and children under eight are admitted free of charge. Pit admission is $22 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. Pit gates for competitors and grandstand gates for fans will open at 2:30 pm with racing getting underway at 6 pm. The event also includes racing in four Oyster Bed Speedway house divisions, MacCallum’s Waste Management Pro Stocks, Central Engine Services Street Stock, Provincial Credit Union Mini Outlaw and Chris’s Bobcat Services Four Fun.
