Double the Fun at Petty International Raceway This Weekend July 20, 2017 Regional RIVER GLADE, NB – The first double header weekend of the season at Petty International Raceway in River Glade will provide race fans with two days of full throttle racing excitement. Seven unique stock car divisions will entertain the crowd with some of the biggest names in Maritime motorsports hitting the track over the two nights. Friday’s Championship Point Racing benefitting Salisbury Helping Hands has a green flag time of 7:30 pm while Saturday’s event, highlighted by the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour’s Irving Blending & Packaging 150, will start at 6 pm. Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour drivers Craig Slaunwhite (Terence Bay, NS) and Shawn Turple (Enfield, NS) will begin their weekend at Petty International Raceway by running in the Limited Late Model 100 on Friday evening. Slaunwhite will fill in for Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake, NS) in the #11 Veinotte’s Truck and Auto Ford Fusion while Turple will enter the battle in the #41 Dulux Paints Bayers Lake Chevrolet owned by Craig McFetridge. Kenny Mackenzie Jr (Salisbury, NB) enters as the point leader with a five point advantage on Veinotte. Pete Miller (Kennetcook, NS) is third in the standings, followed by Neal Crawford (Salisbury, NB) and Phil Barkhouse Jr. (Hammonds Plains, NS). The 100-lap event is the fourth of eight scheduled point events for the class in 2017. Mount Hebron, New Brunswick’s Chuck Mercer scored his first Westwood Estates Street Stock feature win of the season the last time out at Petty International Raceway during the MetalCore/D.R. Scrap Metal Night of Destruction. He was able to close the gap on point leader and top rookie Logan Power (Riverview, NB) to just five markers. “Hollywood” James Matchett (Miramichi, NB) has quietly gone about his business and has achieved third place in the standings thus far in 2017. Westwood Estates Street Stock mainstays Nick Cudmore (Goshen, NB) and Mike Duskey (Albany, PE) complete the top five after three races. Mike Weagle (Salisbury, NB) not only won the Mister Transmission Mini Stock feature on July 8th, but he also took away the championship lead. Weagle, a former champion in the division, leads reigning titlist Tim Webster (Beaver Bank, NS) by a slim two point margin heading into their fourth event of the year. Mike Edwards (Penobsquis, NB) is keeping step with the leaders as he has the #89 car in third. Four points separate the battle for fourth in the standings with Rob Poirier (Irishtown, NB) holding the spot over Michael Savoie (Tracadie, NB) and Patricia Taylor (Salisbury, NB). The Women on Wheels division will make their return to the track for the first time since May. Paula Evans and defending champion Brenda Shortell lead the division to battle. The Women on Wheels class features female drivers with limited to no racing experience. Fans that bring a non perishable food item to Petty International Raceway on Friday night will receive grandstand admission for $10. This special admission offer, which benefits the Salisbury Helping Hands Food Bank, is only valid for Friday night and not valid for pit admission. Otherwise, regular admission rates apply. Grandstand admission prices for Friday are $20 for adults and $10 for youth aged eight to 18, while children seven years of age and under will be admitted free. Pit admission is $25 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Pit gates for competitors open at 4pm, grandstand gates open for spectators at 5:30pm with racing getting underway at 7:30pm. Saturday afternoon will see the Leisure Days RV Bandolero division open up the card for the Maritime League of Legends and Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tours. Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow, NS) took home a big win on July 8th and inched himself closer to the championship lead. Nathan Blackburn (Timberlea, NS) holds the top spot in the standings by a single point over Josh Langille (Coldbrook, NS). Rogers sits third in the standings, with Austin MacDonald (Pictou, NS) and sophomore Koven Lewis (Salisbusy, NB) rounding out the top five after a pair of races.
