SYDNEY, NS – The second race of 2014 at Cape Breton Miners Memorial Speedway will be held this Saturday. The first event in July showed a strong crowd with expectations to see some of the hometown boys perform on their local track. This weekend is no different, with the number of entries in each class on the rise. At least four additional Sportsman cars as well as more Street Stock and Mini Stock entries are expected to roll into the pit gate on Saturday afternoon for the second of four races at the Sydney oval for the season.

The headlining feature of the afternoon will be the Gillis Home Hardware 100 for the NAPA Sportsman Series. The top three in the series are within eight points of each other after the last round at Riverside International Speedway. Dale Richardson of Stellarton is in control of the standings heading into the Gillis Home Hardware 100, with Dave Timmons of Inverness and Chris Reid of Fort McMurray, Alberta in third. Reid was the winner of the first race at Cape Breton Miners Memorial Speedway for the NAPA Sportsman Series on July 26. Mike MacLeod and Kody Quinn lead the Cape Breton Trailer Sales Street Stocks and Cat Rental Store Mini Stocks, respectively, after winning their features on July 26.

Main gates open at 2 p.m. with a meet and greet autograph session with the cars and stars of Cape Breton Miners Memorial Speedway at 4 p.m . Racing begins at 5 with three divisions contesting heat races and a main feature. Also, as it is the 50th anniversary of the Mustang, there will be a parade of Mustangs at the track from MacDonald Ford.

Admission for Saturday’s event is $18 for adults 19 years of age or older, $8 for students with children under 12 admitted free.

Check out the “Chase the Race Car” event on Friday around the Sydney area, for cars from all classes set up at their sponsors with chances to win a family pass for Saturday. The displays will be followed by a mini parade through Sydney around 6PM.

This is the third last event at the speedway for 2014 with the two remaining dates on September 27 and October 18.
