PICTOU, NS – Austin MacDonald, 15, is headed for the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida.

MacDonald, grandson of Maritime racing legend Rollie MacDonald, will drive his grandfathers No. 13 King Racing pro late model at the grueling event which runs from Feb. 8 to 16 and features some of the best short track racers in North America.

While this will be Austin’s first run at the World Series, his King Racing team led by his gradfather and Andrew Hicken has plenty of experience having entered cars at New Smyrna on several occasions over the past decades with drivers such as Scott Fraser, Cassius Clark, and Rollie MacDonald himself.

Austin started racing when he was 10 years old driving Bandoleros at Scotia Speedworld and then moving to Legends Cars which he has competed in at tracks throughout North America. He is a three-time Canadian INEX Champion having won the prestigious title in 2015 Bandit division, 2017 Outlaw division, and the 2018 Young Lion division.

It has been Austin’s dream to race his grandfather’s No. 13. Austin drove the car a couple times in 2018 but this will be his first foray as full-time driver of the car.

Cassius Clark, who has been the primary pilot of the No. 13 the last few years is on the entry list at New Smyrna driving a No. 13C out of King Racing. Austin is listed as car No. 13M. The team is taking two new race cars. Clark will serve as a driver coach for Austin in the first part of the week and will likely be in a car towards the end of the week for the extended length features.

At 15, Austin is not yet old enough to drive in the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour, so current plans see a 2019 schedule with him in the No. 13 pro stock at select non-sanctioned events in Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and New England. The team plans to field the car with Clark at the helm in the IWK 250 at Riverside International Speedway and the annual 250 at Speedway 660.
