GEARY, NB – The Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters will shine under the Saturday night lights at Speedway 660 as the track prepares for their first evening race of the year. The third event on the 25th Anniversary Season of the Geary oval will see the Four Cylinder competitors duke it out for 50 laps in a test of man and machine. Joining the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters on the card include the RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock, Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman and DMR Auto Street Stock divisions. Racing begins at 6:30 pm.

The Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters division has seen a changing of the guard in 2018. With champions Kyle Boudreau (Saint John) and Kyle MacKinnon (Lincoln) moving on to battle for the Rookie of the Year Award in the DMR Auto Street Stock class, it has further opened the door for newcomers and veterans alike to showcase their skills on the 1/3-mile oval. So far, it has been Brody Levesque (Fredericton) and Bryan Suttie (Keswick) as the two winners in the two feature events so far in 2018.

Levesque was the winner in the Riverview Ford Lincoln Race for Hunger Season Opener and was poised to mix it up last Sunday during Kids Day before his No. 05 snapped an axle 12 laps into the feature. In that race, Suttie was able to grab the lead from BJ Gillespie (Nackawic) and hold off sophomore Scott “Bat Hubby” Kennie (Fredericton) for his first career feature win in six years of racing. With the action and excitement of the first two races of the year, the cars and stars of the Sharp Shooter division have the potential to put on an early contender for the race of the year on Saturday evening.

Not to be outdone by his peers, Malcolm Suley returned to the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters division to a third-place finish last Sunday afternoon during Kids Day and will look to race back to the front Saturday evening. Allison Hall (Oromocto) has had a mechanical problem-plagued opening two races but hopes to have that all behind her with extra laps on the table on Saturday. The early week rumblings are that fans might see the No. 00 from the Crocker racing stable return to the track on Saturday with Tyler Crocker turning the wheel.

Randy Titus (French Lake) leads a stout field of rookies in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter class after two races. A total of six rookies have taken to the track in the first two events, the most of any racing class at Speedway 660 in 2018.

While all eyes will be on the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters and their extended distance race, battles are just beginning to heat up in all divisions.

Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek) has won the opening two races in the RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division. O’Blenis is the only driver at Speedway 660 to open with two feature wins to start 2018 and one of only three drivers region wide to start their year at their home track with two straight victories. O’Blenis and team worked hard over the winter on their suspension setup on the No. 48 Pro Stock and, as he told Wade Wilson in Riverview Ford Lincoln Victory Lane last Sunday, the work has paid off.

Not to be overshadowed, Harvey youngster Ryan Messer has driven the No. 1 “Big Orange” Pro Stock to two straight second place finishes behind O’Blenis. Greg Fahey (St. Stephen) and Ashton Tucker (Lyttleton) also have podium feature finishes to their credit in 2018. Fifteen Pro Stock teams have competed in at least one event so far in 2018.

Lonnie Sommerville Racing has had a successful start to the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman season with two of their cars going to victory lane in as many weeks. After Drew Greenlaw (Eastport, ME) drove his No. 23 car to the win during the Riverview Ford Lincoln Race for Hunger, Curtis Collins (Saint John) followed it up with his first career Sportsman victory. With a second place finish to Collins on Kids Day, Greenlaw will enter Saturday’s event with the point lead in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman class.

The DMR Auto Street Stock division saw a shakeup on Kids Day with Justin Cole (Harvey) and Shawn Hyslop (Saint Stephen) each finding trouble over the 30-lap feature. Roger Slocum (Chipman) drove to a popular win over Riley Goodwin (MacAdam), who scored his second straight podium finish. The Street Stock division has thrilled fans in their first two races of Speedway 660’s 25th Anniversary Season and should entertain fans with the opening act on Saturday evening.

Returning for 2018, children aged 15 and under will be admitted to the grandstands for free to every stock car event at Speedway 660. The admission structure makes it easier for families to attend race events at the track and received positive feedback from fans when implemented mid-season in 2017.

Adult grandstand admission price for Saturday evening’s Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters 50 is $14 (aged 16 and up). Pit admission is $16 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. Pit gates for competitors will open at 1pm, grandstand gates open for spectators at 5pm with racing getting underway at 6:30pm. A complete race day format will be available via Speedway660.com later in the week.
