UPDATE JULY 6 AT 5:30 P.M. – Event rained out again; rescheduled for July 7 at 2 p.m.

New date sees Bandoleros and Legends go green on Saturday, July 6th at Oyster Bed Speedway

The Maritime League of Legends Tour will take another shot at getting Race Two in of the 2019 season this Saturday evening. Following a rainout last weekend, Prince Edward Island’s Oyster Bed Speedway will play host to Round Two of the touring Legend division with the Island ICF Incorporated 50 while the Bandolero division will join the Maritime League of Legends Tour for a 20-lap feature. Both events will serve as INEX National Qualifiers, marking the first INEX National Qualifiers in Atlantic Canada on the 2019 calendar. The Maritime League of Legends Tour and Bandolero racing action is a part of a card that is anchored by the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour’s fifth round for the year. Racing action at Oyster Bed Speedway begins at 6 pm on Saturday.

The Island ICF Incorporated 50 is the first of two regional qualifiers for INEX Asphalt Nationals on the Maritime League of Legends Tour schedule in 2019. The top finishing Pro, Master, Semi-Pro and Young Lion driver in the field at Oyster Bed Speedway on Saturday will not only win a cash bonus from Fleet Brake Atlantic, they will become eligible for a provisional starting spot in Asphalt Nationals. The 50-lap feature at Speedway 660 on Saturday, August 31st will serve as the second regional qualifier for the Maritime League of Legends Tour. INEX Asphalt Nationals takes place from October 17th to 19th at Bobby Watson’s Carteret County Speedway in Swansboro, North Carolina.

One driver who knows the importance of qualifying at INEX Asphalt Nationals is Emily Meehan (Rawdon, NS). After putting her eligibility for a provisional in her back pocket at Scotia Speedworld last year, she went on to compete at INEX Asphalt Nationals at The Bulling at Las Vegas Motor Speedway last October. While she did not need to fall back on a provisional to make the starting grid in Nevada, many were left on Friday night after qualifying wishing they had won a National Qualifier.

“Having a National Qualifier win is huge,” said Meehan of her experience last year. “As a traveling team, it takes out some of the risk of getting down there and not making it into the show. As a driver, you can focus on learning the track and trying new things instead of completely focusing on getting into the race. We had an amazing experience in Vegas last year and if we win another National Qualifier, you will see us at Carteret County Speedway in October.”

As for Saturday’s Island ICF Incorporated 50, Meehan is ready to unload at Oyster Bed Speedway on Saturday with the No. 75 car.

“We are heading to Prince Edward Island chasing another victory,” said Meehan, who was on the podium in this race last season. “We have unloaded fast cars in the past at Oyster Bed Speedway and we hope this new FZ09 package will be just as good. We’ve been keeping an eye on weekly results at the track and I think we’ll have big competition but we are ready!”

Braden Langille (Shubenacadie, NS) enters Saturday’s Island ICF Incorporated 50 as the point leader on the Maritime League of Legends Tour. Scotia Speedworld regular Andrew Lively (Middle Sackville, NS) is second in the standings after one event and is looking at making the trip to Oyster Bed Speedway on Saturday to back up his runner-up finish from the Season Opener. Meehan, multiple time Canada East Masters champion Paul Goulden (Shelburne, NS) and defending Maritime League of Legends Tour champion and former Oyster Bed Speedway race winner Shelby Baker (Fall River, NS) round out the top five in the Series standings heading into Race Two.

The two Maritime League of Legends Tour events at Oyster Bed Speedway in 2018 were owned by Cory Hall Racing. Craig MacDonald (Waverley, NS) is the reigning champion of the Island ICF Incorporated 50 while Cory Hall (Jolicure, NB) scored a convincing victory last August at the 1/3-mile oval.

With Oyster Bed Speedway hosting a house division for Legend cars in 2019, it is expected that several home track drivers will test their skills against the Maritime League of Legends Tour. Ten drivers have taken to the track over the last three house races at Oyster Bed Speedway with Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow, NS) picking up the feature win the last time the track hosted a race on June 23rd.

For the second time in Series history, the Maritime League of Legends Tour will bring the Bandolero division to the race track. The 20-lap feature will act as a National Qualifier and play a key role when it comes to INEX National Points.

When it comes to INEX National Points, Owen Mahar (Hubley, NS) leads the Canada East Outlaw standings but with Danny Chisholm (Canning, NS) only 24 points behind the No. 66 as of press time, this race could be pivotal in the season long standings power struggle. Both Mahar and Chisholm find themselves in the top 20 overall in the International Outlaw East point standings. Of note, Chisholm will do double duty this weekend and will make his Maritime League of Legends Tour debut in the Island ICF Incorporated 50.

Enfield, Nova Scotia’s Gage Gilby is the leader in Canada East Bandit points, sitting 20th overall in the International Bandit East INEX points. Bear Cove, Nova Scotia’s Chase MacKay and Bedford, Nova Scotia’s Brooke Dowe are second and third in the Canada East regional point standings as of press time.

With several Prince Edward Island-based teams, led by Tanton Wooldridge (Summerside, PE), eager to challenge the best youngsters in Atlantic Canada, the Maritime League of Legends Tour Bandolero National Qualifier is expected to be one of the most hotly contested races on Saturday evening’s card.

The Island ICF Incorporated Legend 50 and Bandolero National Qualifiers at Oyster Bed Speedway marks the second of ten events on the 2019 season for the Maritime League of Legends Tour. Also included on the Saturday, July 6th card is the fifth round for the Maritime Pro Stock Tour as they contest a 150-lap feature presented by Parts for Trucks and a 50-lap Oyster Bed Speedway Outlaw event. Racing action gets under way with qualifying races for feature events at 6pm. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. About ICF: Insulated Concrete Forms and BernMar Construction:
BernMar Construction has used LOGIX ICF since 2006 and our employees are trained in the knowledge and installation of this product. ICF – Insulated Concrete Forms – is basically a Styrofoam form that is filled with concrete and creates a very strong and efficient exterior wall system for houses, apartments, warehouses, etc. With the rise in energy costs, specifically home heating, this has turned out to be a good move for us especially since there are few builders on the Island using this product.
