4-Cyl. Gunslinger 50 Highlights Sunday Show at Speedway 660

AUGUST 10 AT 10 A.M. – With a forecast of persistent showers and thunderstorms throughout the afternoon and early evening in the Fredericton area, Speedway 660 officials have made the decision to call off racing which had been scheduled for Saturday evening. The Gunslinger 50 presented by Fredericton Gun Shop and Fairview Jeep Ram will be rescheduled to Sunday afternoon. The green flag will go in the air on Sunday for qualifying at 2 pm.

GEARY, NB – Speedway 660 returns to racing this Saturday evening with the Gunslinger 50 presented by Fredericton Gun Shop and Fairview Jeep Ram as the main attraction. The event was scheduled to take place in June but inclement weather pushed the event back to this Saturday, August 10th. While the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters will be in the spotlight, the RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock, Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman and DMR Auto Street Stock divisions will all contest pivotal races in their respective championship chases. The racing action gets underway this Saturday evening at 6:30 pm. Should inclement weather interfere with Saturday’s racing card, a rain date has been added by the track for Sunday afternoon at 2 pm.

The Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters division has been one of the toughest to win in anywhere in Atlantic Canada in 2019. In eight races, the division has produced six different winners with Harvey, New Brunswick’s BJ Gillespie being the only repeat winner. In addition to Gillespie’s three wins, Brody Levesque (Lincoln, NB), Matt Martin (Haneytown, NB), Scott “Bat Hubby” Kennie (Fredericton, NB), Ryan Bernard (Harvey, NB) and most recently rookie Tristan Harris (Harvey, NB) have all won feature events. Levesque, who is the point leader with two races to go following Saturday’s Gunslinger 50, won a 50-lap feature at Speedway 660 for the class in June. In total, 27 different teams have competed in at least one event in the division over the 2019 season.

Brent Roy (Hanwell, NB) has built a lead in the RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division after Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) experienced mechanical problems with his No. 48 during the Christmas in July event. Roy’s lead on O’Blenis is a manageable 28 points, with Greg Fahey (St. Stephen, NB) only 11 points behind O’Blenis. Ian Rasmussen (New Denmark, NB) has begun to make some noise in the second half of 2019 and is only five points out of Fahey for third in the standings. With three races to go, anything can happen in the top class of racing in the Geary woods.

Curtis Collins (Barnesville, NB), Richard Atkinson (Geary, NB) and Courtney O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) have established themselves as the championship contenders in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division with three races to go. The trio has taken six of the seven-point race victories with O’Blenis scoring the most recent victory two weeks ago. Collins is the point leader by 15 markers over Riverview Ford Lincoln Season Opener winner Atkinson and by 28 over O’Blenis. Ryan Raynes and Rob Raynes (both of Saint John, NB) are 53 and 76 points back, respectively, and could put themselves in the title conversation if things go their way.

Chris Hanley (St. Stephen, NB) took home a gift from Santa Claus during Christmas in July, scoring his first DMR Auto Street Stock feature victory of the season. Hanley sits only five points behind former division champion Roger Slocum (Chipman, NB) with only three races to go. “The Villain” Rick Cashol (Saint John, NB) sits third, 56 points out of the top two and will need to grab a gear to get back in the thick of the points battle with three events to go.

Returning for 2019, children aged 15 and under will be admitted to the grandstands for free to every stock car event at Speedway 660. The admission structure makes it easier for families to attend race events at the track and received positive feedback from fans when implemented mid-season in 2017.

Adult grandstand admission price for Saturday’s Gunslinger 50 presented by Fredericton Gun Shop and Fairview Jeep Ram is $15 (aged 16 and up). Pit admission is $18 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. Pit gates for competitors will open at 1:00 pm, grandstand gates open for spectators at 5:30 pm with racing getting underway at 6:30 pm. A complete race day format will be available via Speedway660.com later in the week. Should inclement weather interfere with the racing program on Saturday, August 10th, a rain date has been set aside for this event on Sunday, August 11th at 2 pm.
