Food Drive Highlights This Saturday’s Racing Show at Petty June 12, 2019 Regional RIVER GLADE, NB – Racing returns to Petty International Raceway this Saturday night with a full card of racing action. Five unique divisions of stock car racing will take to the track on a night that will benefit the Salisbury Helping Hands Food Bank. The green flag will go in the air for the third event of the 2019 season at the River Glade, New Brunswick oval on Saturday, June 15 at 4 pm. The A.E. McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman division has provided some thrilling racing in their first two events of the 2019 season. Marcel LeBlanc (Bouctouche, NB) scored his first career Late Model win back in May at the Season Opener, while Laurie Cormier (Riverview, NB) found himself in victory lane after the second round on June 1st. While consistency has put both Kenny MacKenzie Jr and Neal Crawford (both of Salisbury, NB) in the top three in the point standings after two weeks, only one driver has scored podium finishes in each of the two races. Justin Beers (Moncton, NB) raced to a third place finish on May 25th and did one better on June 1st with a second place run in the No. 3 D.R. Beers & Son Construction Chevrolet. It is early to start thinking about championship runs with a driver’s best seven races counting towards a point title in 2019, but Beers knows a strong start can propel his team a long way towards that big picture goal. “At this point, everyone is comfortable with the track and hopefully everyone can settle in early on Saturday night,” said Beers of the first two races and looking forward to the third race of 2019. “If I’m going to win this Saturday, it is going to take smooth driving and a little bit of luck. Hopefully I can be there at the end again to contend for the victory!” Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB) holds one of the hottest hands heading into the Salisbury Helping Hands Food Drive on Saturday night. Cormier is hoping to drive to his fourth straight win in as many feature events he has competed in. After taking the Street Stock feature win at Petty Raceway on June 1st, he took home a Street Stock win the next day in Geary, New Brunswick on June 2nd and was a winner in the Legends division at Oyster Bed Bridge, Prince Edward Island last Saturday. After two races, the reigning Street Stock track champion finds himself in a three way tie for the championship lead with 2017 titlist Logan Power (Riverview, NB) and Ryan Richard (Saint John, NB). Season Opener winner Mike Duskey (Albany, PE) and leading NAPA Petitcodiac and Salisbury Rookie Trevor Smith (Windsor, NS) find themselves at the top of the heap after a pair of races in the class. Speaking of Trevor Smith, he did double duty the last time Petty International Raceway was in action. Smith ran both his Street Stock and Mister Transmission Mini Stock entries and came home with a second place run in the four cylinder. Smith was sandwiched between Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia drivers JR Lawson and Chantel Ackles on the podium. Defending champion Rob Poirier (Irishtown, NB) will be searching for his first Petty Raceway win of the season on Saturday evening. Ryan McKnight (Sussex, NB), Chris Garnett (Havelock, NB) and Ryan Crawford (Salisbury, NB) will be among those looking to rebound on Saturday after finishes outside the top five during the Canadian National Autism Foundation Kids Race presented by Acura of Moncton on June 1st. Familiar faces led the Kings County Performance Women on Wheels division to the checkered flag two weeks ago with Ashley Campbell and Paula Evans showing the way. Katie Beazley made her first career start and came home third, leading the way for the NAPA Petitcodiac and Salisbury rookies in the field. Casie Skidmore, who had to swap racing rides before the feature on June 1st, and Lauralee Blackburn have top five finishes to show for their efforts after one race into the season. The Noble brothers from Upper Nine Mile River, Nova Scotia pace the field in the Leisure Days RV Bandolero divisions after one race. Dawson Noble, the younger of the two, won the Beginner Bandolero event on June 1st over Ayden Christensen (Windsor Junction, NS) and Campbell Delaney (Halifax, NS). In the more experienced Bandolero Outlaw/Bandit feature, Colton Noble outran Danny Chisholm (Canning, NS) and Tanton Wooldridge (Summerside, PE) for the victory. Expect the racing in the Leisure Days RV Bandolero divisions to be tight as the youngest drivers of Petty International Raceway heat up the track on Saturday. Fans are encouraged to bring non perishable food items or cash donation for the Salisbury Helping Hands Food Bank as a part of the food drive taking place Saturday evening at Petty International Raceway. Grandstand admission prices for Saturday’s event are $20 for adults and $10 for youth aged eight to 18, while children seven years of age and under will be admitted free. Pit admission is $25 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Pit gates for competitors open at 12pm, grandstand gates open for spectators at 2pm with racing getting underway at 4pm.
