The Passione Flooring & Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour is heading across the Maritime Provinces this week. From a stop last Sunday at Lake Doucette Motor Speedway outside of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, the Series heads to Oyster Bed Speedway in Oyster Bed Bridge, Prince Edward Island for Round Three on the 2021 schedule. The Byrne Plumbing 50 presented by Big Jay’s Carpentry is the first stop for the Series on Prince Edward Island in Series history and is the only stop in 2021 on the Island. In addition, the race will pay $500 to the winner. Racing begins on Saturday, August 14th at 6 pm.

Jesse Deveau (Greenwood, NS) remains the driver to beat after two races on the Passione Flooring & Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour. Deveau began the season in July by winning the CannaConnect 50 at Petty International Raceway and followed it up with a victory last Sunday at Lake Doucette Motor Speedway in the Showdown on the Shore presented by Bowlby Paving and TJ Greenlawn. Deveau was challenged by Cody Byrne (Orwell Cove, PE) during Round Two, including a challenge in the second half and on the final restart with 18 laps remaining. Stephan Somerset (Nictaux, NS) joined the pair on the podium with a career-best third place finish on the Tour.

Byrne will arguably be at the top of the list when it comes to favorites during the Byrne Plumbing 50 presented by Big Jay’s Carpentry. Byrne is a multi-time winner on the Tour and has been with the Series since its inception. With Oyster Bed Speedway being his home track along with a wave of momentum with a runner-up finish at Lake Doucette, the No. 67 car should be in the equation at the end of 50-laps at the high banked oval.

Several Prince Edward Island drivers will be making their season debut with the Passione Flooring & Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour on Saturday. Not strangers to the Series, Matt Watson (Miscouche, PE) and Jamie Cummings (Charlottetown, PE) will be looking to defend their home turf on Saturday evening. Mitchell Montgomery (Summerside, PE), Gerald Gallant (Summerside, PE), and Jessie LeClair (Tignish, PE) are among the Island drivers that have signaled intent to compete with the Tour on Saturday.

Those that do compete with the Series from Prince Edward Island will have a chance to win one of three CannaConnect and Joes Racing Products Hometown Hero Awards. The top local driver will come home with a $75 bonus from CannaConnect in Oromocto, New Brunswick and a Tire Gauge from Joes Racing Products. The second and third top Island cars in the Byrne Plumbing 50 presented by Big Jay’s Carpentry will receive a cash bonus courtesy of Big Jay’s Carpentry.

With any new track on the schedule, it is an opportunity for veteran Mini Stock racers to not only knock a track off their bucket list but add a track to their resume in the win column. In addition to Deveau, reigning Passione Flooring & Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour champion Dave Matthews (Kennetcook, NS) has few tracks to check off his list with Oyster Bed Speedway being near the top. The MacPhee brothers, Shay and JJ (both of Yarmouth, NS) will make their first trips to race on the Island after solid runs at their home track last weekend. Ryan McKnight (Sussex, NB) will make his second series start of his career on Saturday, while JLS Autosport and Alex Landry (Antigonish, NS) along with Marshall Bezanson (Oldham, NS) will look to rebound on Saturday from mechanical issues at Lake Doucette.

In addition to the previously mentioned CannaConnect and Joes Racing Products Hometown Hero Awards, competitors will also be able to compete for the Giles Auto World Pole Challenge and the EIT Race Radios Hard Charger Award for some extra prize money on the afternoon. RockAuto.com presents the Hard Luck Award – the award no driver wants to win but comes with the consolation of a gift certificate to Series sponsor RockAuto.com.

Grandstand admission prices for Saturday’s Byrne Plumbing 50 presented by Big Jay’s Carpentry are $20 for adults and $10 for youth aged eight to 15, while children seven years of age and under will be admitted free. Pit gates for competitors open at 2 pm, grandstand gates open for spectators at 4 pm with racing getting underway at 6 pm.
