Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) has scheduled two, back-to-back, press conferences for Wednesday morning. While there is no official confirmation of the subject matter, it is widely speculated that Carl Edwards – driver of the No. 19 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series car for JGR, will announce his immediate departure from NASCAR at the first press conference and then, at the second press conference,  JGR will announce Daniel Suarez as the replacement driver in the No. 19 car.

The speculation of Edwards departure took the NASCAR world by surprise Tuesday with no-one having a definitive answer as to why that might happen.

Edwards, 37, is one of the top drivers in NASCAR’s premiere series and narrowly missed winning the championship in 2016. In his 13-year-career he has 445 starts and 28 wins. He and his wife have two children and reside in Missouri away from the limelight of the NASCAR hub in North Carolina.

2017 is the last year of a multi-year contract he had with JGR as driver of the No. 19 car.

More to follow after the press conference which is scheduled for 10 a.m. ET (11 a.m. AT).
