UPDATE, MONDAY AT 4:30 p.m. –  5 Flags Speedway officials have been forced to postpone the 49th annual Snowball Derby for another day, until Tuesday at 5 p.m. CT. The Monday weather has been wet all day with a tornado watch in effect from mid-afternoon through 8 p.m. Monday evening.

Heavy rain in the Pensacola (FL) area on Sunday caused the Snowball Derby to be postponed until Monday evening. Track officials at 5 Flags Speedway were relentless in their efforts to dry the track in small windows of opportunity on Sunday but a late afternoon downpour was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Driver’s participated in the decision with track officials who recognized a postponement would cause a myriad of issues for race teams, some of which had pit crew members that would not be able to participate if the race didn’t happen on Sunday. And so officials have imposed a controlled caution concept for Monday where cars that pit will not lose position on the restart; they will line up as they entered pit road behind the cars that do not pit.

Gates open at Noon CT on Monday with the green flag scheduled for 5 p.m. CT (6 p.m. ET, 7 p.m. AT). Sunday tickets will be honoured Monday as will pay-per-view tickets purchased from Speed51TV.

NASCAR Camping World Trucks Series star William Byron set fast time in Friday time-trials and will lead the field to green.
