Smith Fans Raise $19k For Florida Races

HALIFAX, NS - Wayne Smith's fans have contributed $19,000 to help sponsor the "Oval Outlaw's" first-ever venture to Florida's World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway February 5 to 13. The team held a fundraising event this past Saturday night where the five-time Maritime champion was overcome with the support his friends and fans offered.

The money were raised through ticket sales for the event which included a lobster dinner and an auction of numerous donated items which included one-of-a-kind die-cast models of Smith's racecars - even the 2010 edition that he'll take to New Smyrna (pictured right).

More than 160 people attended the event and signed a banner the team will carry to Florida with them - as the team pledged to represent the Maritimes the best they can...

Smith will take two cars to Florida bearing his familiar No. 44 and a new paint scheme; he will run the crate division at the World Series alongside some of the best short track racers in North America.
