Sommerville Florida Bound for Double Duty
Posted January 19, 2010; Source - Team Communications

SAINT JOHN, NB (January 18, 2010) - Lonnie Sommerville and his race team will be in Florida the next few weeks planning to do double duty, first racing in the first PASS National event of 2010 at the New Smyrna Speedway Saturday January 30 then the team will make their first ever New Smyrna World Series of Asphalt speed weeks appearance starting Friday February 5.

Even though the Sommerville hasn't finalized his 2010 race plan, one option the team he like to keep open is the possibility of winning the 2010 PASS National championship. The five race series, which kicks off January 30 with the Winterfest 150 at New Smyrna, may determine the much of the rest of the season for Sommerville.

“Depending on how we finish Winterfest will decide if we will continue on for the national championship," said Sommerville. "With the series only being a five race series you can win or lose a championship in the first race. Our goal like always is to win but if we can leave there with a solid top five finish that would at least put us in a position to compete for the title.”

The World Series event includes eight nights of racing between February 5 and 13 among some of the best short track super late model division competitors in North America.

“It will be really nice to get away from the weather and get back behind the wheel of a race car," said Sommerville. "I can’t get down south fast enough because I get bored pretty easily when there’s no racing going on, even though I’ve got a lot going on in the shop these days working on customers’ race cars. Racing at New Smyrna will be a whole new experience for me. I have never been on a track that has the speed in it like that place. It should be a pretty awesome experience but I’m confident we can run well enough to have a shot at getting our first win in the U.S.”
