Scott Fraser Inducted to Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame
Posted February 26, 2008

The Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame Class of 2007 - left to right - Jack Christie, Ted Gryguc, Tony Novotny, Madeline Matthews (for Billy Matthews), Geoff Goodwin, Alan Labrosse, and
Frank Fraser Jr. (for Scott Fraser).
A gala to honour the 2007 inductees to the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame (CMHOF) was held Saturday evening in Toronto. Among
the seven new members was Shubenadie Nova Scotia's Scott Fraser, one of two posthumous honourees in the group.
Frank (Frankie) Fraser Jr. represented his brother delivering an emotional heartwarming acceptance speech that left the room of 300
guests knowing the same charisma that had endeared Scott to so many through his 33 years.
On Scott's behalf, Frankie thanked Scott's fans, friends, crew members - with special thanks to the crew members wives and
girlfriends, and many sponsors. Special thanks were also extended to those instrumental in Scott's career including longtime
sponsor Atlantic CAT - for their unwaivering support, Jim & Sheila Hall - for their guidance, Rollie and Judy MacDonald/King Freight Lines -
for taking Scott and his crew on the "ride of their life" in the ASA days, Junior Hanley - for being a mentor to Scott, and to
Scott and Frankie's parents Frank & Grace Fraser - "for being the best damn parents two kids could have."
One of the most poignant moments came when Frankie presented the CMHOF with one of Scott's Atlantic CAT driver suits
that had been framed full-size in a shadow box and donated by Atlantic CAT. The suit was carried to the stage by an unseen person
who was behind it; from the reception floor it was as if Scott's spirit had made his presence known.
A video presentation highlighting Scott's racing career preceded the award and acceptance speech. The video lead was a
tribute to Scott by NASCAR legend Buddy Baker - taped just two weeks ago at the North Carolina Motorsport Hall of Fame - arranged by
Performance PR Plus, Scott's agent during the ASA days, and longtime DuPont representative for Jeff Gordon in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
The Fraser family was presented with a beautiful memento from Scotia Speedworld, Scott's home track in Halifax (NS),
a crystal eternal flame (pictured right) engraved to mark the occasion and accompanied by a letter of congratulations.
A group of 20 accompanied the Fraser family to the gala, including former CMHOF inductees Junior Hanley and Rollie MacDonald -
often referred to by Frank Fraser (Scott's dad) as Scott's second and third fathers.
Many, many fans, fellow racers, former sponsors, friends - even a member of the House of Assembly/Government of Nova Scotia - sent
congratulatory messages through this website, all of which were placed in a scrapbook along with the CMHOF nomination package
and given to the Fraser family.
Other inductees honoured Saturday night included Jack Christie (Builder/ Road Racing, Ovals), Geoff Goodwin (Competitor/
Oval and Road Racing), Ted Gryguc (Competitor/ Boat Racing), Alan Labrosse (Competitor - Builder/ Motorcycle Racing),
the late Billy Matthews (Competitor/ Motorcycle Racing), Tony Novotny (Builder/ Stock Car Racing).
Scott Fraser was inducted as a Competitor in Stock Car Racing.
