Remembering Scott Kelly

This Saturday (Aug 16) will see the running of the Scott Kelly Memorial 100 presented by Parts for Trucks at Riverside Int'l Speedway.

Scott Kelly was a shining young star in regional racing circles during the mid 80s, but in May 1999 lost a battle with cancer. He was just 28 years old. The Scott Kelly Memorial 100 is a tribute to Scott from his longtime sponsor and friends at Parts for Trucks.

Scott Kelly's short racing career started in 1988. He raced three years in the street stock division, then three years in the open wheel division. In 1994 he moved to late model/pro stock and won the MASCAR Rookie of the Year title; in 1995 he was second in MASCAR points; in 1996 he finished third in the prestigious Oxford 250 in Maine; and in 1998 he won the inaugural International Pro Stock Challenge title. Scott's dad, Junior Kelly - the 1985 MASCAR champion, was his mentor.

Scott was a huge Jeff Gordon fan - and so when the opportunity was presented to purchase a Jeff Gordon showcar hauler over the 98-99 off-season, they jumped at it. Scott passed away just a few weeks before the '99 season started...
