OYSTER BED BRIDGE, PEI (June 28, 2008) - Kent Vincent of Crapaud, PE won the PARTS FOR TRUCKS 100 at Raceway Park on Saturday night. Vincent took the lead on lap 52 and held off fellow Island driver Chris Hughes of Brackley to take the win, his first Halcraft Print Checkered Flag of the season. Hughes, who led the first 51 laps, came home second, ahead of Greg Proude of Charlottetown. The "King of the Road" Roger Miller of Kennetcook, NS and Shawn Tucker of Fredericton, NB rounded out the top five.

Islanders dominated their home event, sweeping the top three positions and five of the top 10 finishing positions. Over 2500 fans saw the two challenge each other several times on restarts throughout the event, slowed by seven cautions and taking 58 minutes to complete.

Jonathan Hicken of Montague, PE Darren MacKinnon of Winloe, PE and Wayne Smith of Timberlea, NS won heat races. Hughes won the Coast Tire Most Laps Led Award and the Dash for the Pole, featuring the top nine finishers in the Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials. Craig Slaunwhite of Terrence Bay, NS had the fastest time on the tight 1/4 mile oval, with an average speed of nearly 67 miles per hour. None of the top five cars opted to take the Hipertech Pole Challenge.

Kris Fournier of Charlottetown, PE won the "B" Feature, ahead of Daryl Mahar of Hubley, NS and Bobby White of Kennetcook, NS. Hughes unofficially leads the Parts for Trucks Challenge, a mini series held within the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour Championship. Twenty nine of the top drivers from the Maritimes attempted to qualify for the Main Feature.

The CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour returns to action next Saturday with the first extra distance event of the season. The Forbes Chevrolet 150 will be held July 5 at Scotia Speedworld, near Halifax, NS. This is the first of four extra distance races of the season and is the final tune up before the prestigious IWK 250, to be held July 19 at Riverside International Speedway in James River, NS.

Island Racers Show Strength in Numbers For Saturday's Parts For Trucks 100 at Raceway Park
Posted June 26, 2008; Source - PST Communications

OYSTER BED BRIDGE, PEI (June 25, 2008) - The CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour makes its first of two annual stops on Prince Edward Island this Saturday for the Parts for Trucks 100 - with a record number of "Islanders" expected to enter the race. Twelve racers from PEI have stated their intention to compete in the Parts for Trucks 100, almost half of the 29 cars expected to enter.

PEI racers on the roster include: Kent Vincent, currently tied for fifth place in overall series point standings will be on hand, as will Jonathan Hicken - the leading contender in the EIT Race Radio Rookie of the Year standings, along with Robbie MacLean, Dale Holmes, Lowell Affleck, Darren MacKinnon, Darren Vanderaa, Greg Proude, Chris Hughes, Scott Livingston, Kris Fournier and Roger Crane.

Vincent and Proude are former series winners at the tight 1/4-mile oval, and all of them used Raceway Park as their training ground as they progressed through their racing careers to the pro stock ranks.

Besides the "Islanders" the Parts for Trucks 100 will feature defending race winner Bobby White as well as series champions Wayne Smith, Rollie MacDonald and Shawn Tucker.

Smith is the series current points leader, but Shawn Turple - winner of two of the first three races of the season - is in hot pursuit, just 15 markers out of first place. Two-time and defending series champion Shawn Tucker is third overall, just 11 points behind Turple. Only 63 points separate the top 10 in the point standings after the first three races. Tucker is also a series race winner this year.

The Parts for Trucks 100 at Raceway Park is round four of 11 in the 2008 chase for series championship, and round one of four in the 2008 Parts for Trucks Challenge - an annual mini-series designed to reward top points-getters in the four races sponsored by Parts for Trucks each season.

Two rounds of qualifying (time trials and heat races) will set a 26-car starting grid for the 100-lap feature race. Pro stock Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials start at 5:10 p.m.; racing starts at 6.

Besides the pro stock races, the event will feature regular points racing in the Raceway Park modified and street stock divisions.
