Fast Wrap - Race Notes
Posted August 20/07; Source: CTW.com
Dale Holmes took a hard hit when his No. 4 racecar slammed the concrete wall entering turn one on lap 17 of the Antigonish Mall
100. Holmes limped away from the wreck (literally), refusing medical attention. When interviewed later by a track announcer, Holmes
said he was bruised, and that his car was pretty much wrecked....
Kudos to Craig Slaunwhite for his run in Frank Fraser's No. 23; Slaunwhite started sixth and kept the car in the top six
the entire race, running as high as fourth. This was Slaunwhite's first-ever pro stock race; Fraser was at River Glade Speedway fulfilling
a commitment to sponsor Mountain Wild Blueberries to race in the International 100...
Slaunwhite was also the winner of the 50-lap sportsman feature race, driving his familiar No. 99 to the win. Jerome Kehoe was second and
Scott Allen was third.

Preview #2: The Antigonish Mall 100

Twenty-Seven Ready for Action
Halifax, NS (August 15, 2007) – Twenty-seven teams have ordered tires for The Antigonish Mall 100 at Riverside Speedway in James River, NS on Saturday, August 18th.
A pair of Shawn’s are at the top of the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour championship point’s standings. Shawn Turple of Enfield, NS continues to lead the championship point’s standings with a 35-point lead over Shawn Tucker of Fredericton, NB. Kent Vincent of Crapaud, PE sits in third place, 35 points back of Tucker. Wayne Smith of Timberlea, NS and Chris Hughes of Winsloe, PE round out the top five in points.
The remaining top ten is made up of Lonnie Sommerville of Saint John, NB, Bobby White of Kennetcook, NB, Brad Mann of Glen Livet, NB, Dale Holmes, West Covehead, PE, and Greg Proude, North Wiltshire, PE.
A number of drivers who are not running fulltime on the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour in 2007 will be on hand and have the potential to make an impact. George Koszkulics of New Glasgow, NS finished third in the Parts For Trucks 100, the last race at Riverside Speedway, while Rollie MacDonald of Pictou, NS was fourth. Donald Chisholm of Antigonish, NS is the hometown favourite with Riverside Speedway located just outside Antigonish. Chisholm is always strong on the high banks. John Flemming of Halifax, NS will be on hand, trying to right a season fraught with car problems. Flemming hasn’t run many races in 2007 and when he has, he has suffered with car woes.
The EIT Race Rookie of the Year race has seen Sommerville with a comfortable lead over Darren MacKinnon of Winsloe, PE, who lost ground when he hit the wall in Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials and couldn’t continue his day. Gary Bursey of Moncton, NB is a rookie driver and has more points than MacKinnon, but Bursey had vacated the driver’s seat for an experienced driver, thus forfeiting rookie points for those races.
The Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials have seen six different drivers set the fastest qualifying time at the seven races run to date. Turple is the only driver to accomplish the feat more than once. Other fast times were set by Flemming, Sommerville, Vincent, Hughes and MacDonald. This coveted award sets the tone for race day and ensures the top eight drivers of a good starting position in the Antigonish Mall 100.
The Urquhart MacDonald Associates B Feature is a last chance race for those drivers who fail to qualify for the feature through the dash and heats. It is always a hotly contested contest. Previous races have seen wins go to Daryl Mahar of Hubley, NS, MacKinnon, Holmes, Frank Fraser of Shubenacadie, NS. and Stacey Clements of Five Island Lake, NS.
Mike MacKenzie of Dartmouth, NS and Shawn Pierce of Bridgewater, NS are unsure of their participation Saturday night. Mackenzie has suffered with a crew shortage this year and Pierce has an engine problem.
The long distance award continues to go to Dean MacInnis of Kansas. MacInnis, who is originally from Whycocomagh, NS
flies back and forth for the races. An option made available by his brother, who has assumed responsibility for preparing the car.
Racing starts at 6 p.m. Saturday night featuring qualifying heat races to set the starting grids for the Antigonish Mall
100 pro stock feature and for the Riverside Sportsman Super Series, whose feature race length will be determined based on car count - either
50 or 75 laps...
Preview: The Antigonish Mall 100
Posted August 15/07
Riverside International Speedway is ready for Saturday's running of the Antigonish Mall 100.
The race is round eight of 10 on the 2007 CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour chase for the championship, and the final super late model
event on the historic high banks of Riverside in 2007. The race also marks the first anniversary of the re-opening of the historic facility
last August 17.
If the CARQUEST Tour race held at Riverside two weeks ago is any indication, competition will be keen when the
green flag falls. The August 4 event was dubbed by many as "one of the best" races they have seen in a long time.
That race was won by PEI's Kent Vincent, definitely deserving of the win, as he held off repeated challenges by several others
throughout the race including second-place Shawn Turple - the current leader of the series point standings, and defending champion of
the Antigonish Mall 100.
Turple, who has yet to score a win this year, is among those hungry for a checkered flag Saturday at Riverside
International Speedway. But with just 35 points separating him from 2004 series champion Shawn Tucker, and only three races to go to
determine who gets the coveted title, which is stronger: the desire to win a race, or a championship?
"Definitely a race," said Turple without hesitation Tuesday morning. "If we're running second with 10 to go this weekend,
and we think we can win, we'll go for it. We won't just ride for points, trust me."
Turple's primary car was wrecked last month at Riverside while being driven by Maine's Cassius Clark. Turple's
backup car was parked last weekend at Scotia Speedworld when an axle broke, causing the rear end to seize up. Turple's team is
scrambling this week to finish repairs on the primary car in time for Saturday.
Vincent's win at Riverside moved him to third in the standings - just 35 markers behind Tucker; the series inaugural
champion Wayne Smith is fourth - only five points behind Vincent, and Chris Hughes is fifth - just two behind Smith.
The series has seen five different winners in seven events this year; Smith is the only repeat winner with three visits to
Victory Lane. Vincent, Tucker, Bobby White and Mike MacKenzie round out the 07 "Winner's Club."
The grandstand gates open Saturday at 1 p.m. for advance ticket holders; the box office opens at 2 p.m. Time trials for the pro
stocks go at 5:10 p.m. Racing starts at 6 p.m. and features the Riverside Sportsman Series along with the pro stocks. Both divisions
will run heat races to determine the starting lineups for the features.
Admission to the grandstand is $25 for adults, $8 for youth, children seven and under are admitted free. Pit admission is
restricted to 16 and older and costs $30. Grandstand ticket upgrades to pit tickets cost an extra $10.
