White Returns To Victory Lane in PEI
    Posted 6:49 a.m. July 1

OYSTER BED BRIDGE, PEI - Bob White of Kennetcook, NS won the PARTS FOR TRUCKS 100 for the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour at the Grand Re-opening of Raceway Park in Oyster Bed Bridge, PE on Saturday Night. Wayne Smith of Timberlea, NS was second, ahead of Shawn Turple of Enfield, NS. Chris Hughes of Brackley Beach, PE and Dale Holmes of Westcovehead, PE rounded out the top five.

Smith won the halfway leader award and the Most Laps Led Award. Over 2000 fans saw 21 cautions slow the event, which took 2 hours and 25 minutes to complete.

White and Frank Fraser of Shubenacadie, NS won heat races. Holmes won the Dash for the Pole, featuring the top eight finishers in the Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials. Kent Vincent of Crapaud, PE blistered the track record by nearly a full second on the 1/4 mile oval, at an average speed of nearly 68 miles per hour, nearly 5 miles per hour quicker than last season’s fastest time. None of the top five cars opted to take the Rockico Truck and Trailer Pole Challenge.

Twenty-six of the Maritimes top drivers attempted to qualify for the Main Feature on the new asphalt at Raceway Park. The Parts for Trucks 100 was the first event on the new asphalt, which was laid by racers from Prince Edward Island and those that donated to the Racers Pavement Fund. The Racers Pavement Fund was formed in early 2007 by a group of stock car racers, team members and racing enthusiasts who shared a common concern about the future of Stock Car racing on Prince Edward Island (courtesy of the RPF website). They completed their mission to lay the new asphalt for the Parts for Trucks 100 and they received a standing ovation from the crowd for their efforts.

The next stop on the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour is on July 7 at 6:00 p.n. at Scotia Speedworld near Halifax, NS.

It's here - the grand re-opening of the newly repaved and renovated Raceway Park!!!

The Parts For Trucks 100 is set for Saturday on the newly paved Raceway Park in Oyster Bed Bridge, PE. In what has become a tradition, the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour holds an event on Canada Day weekend in beautiful Prince Edward Island.

Current Rookie of the Year leader Lonnie Sommerville of Saint John, NB sits four back of Turple and 14 back of Tucker in the 2007 points standings. Two Islanders, Chris Hughes of Winsloe and Kent Vincent of Crapaud round out the top five drivers in points.

Chasing Sommerville in the 2007 EIT Race Radios Rookie of the Year race are Darren MacKinnon of Winsloe, PE and Gary Bursey of Moncton, NB. Jonathan Hicken, Brudenell, PE sits in fourth place, despite running a limited schedule in 2007.

Twenty-six of the best pro stock drivers in the Maritimes, including past champions Rollie MacDonald and Wayne Smith, are making the trip to the inaugural race at the newly refurbished Raceway Park. Others are veteran Bobby White of Kennetcook, NS, Stacey Clements of Five Island Lake, NS, Greg Proude of North Wiltshire, PE, Brad Mann of Glen Livet, NB and Dale Holmes of West Covehead, PE.
