    Mansfield 250 - News & Notes

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 22, 2006) – Mansfield Motorsports Speedway, host to Saturday’s City of Mansfield 250, might be termed a “throwback” half-mile track.

And that would be a compliment.

More than 11 years ago, when the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debuted, more than half the schedule – 14 of 20 races – was contested on tracks measuring .375-mile to .686-mile in length. Click here for the rest of the story.

    Pre-Race Notes & Quotes

Todd Bodine, No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Toyota Tundra "I am looking forward to racing at Mansfield," said Bodine. "It's kind of like a hometown track for Germain Racing, since it's so close to Columbus, OH where brothers Bob, Steve and Rick Germain are from. Mansfield is a tough short track and you have to drive a smart race there or you will find yourself in trouble early on in the race. We need another strong finish - which will help our points lead. Ted and I would like nothing else than to give the Germain's a nice one-two finish at Mansfield." Todd will be making his second NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway this weekend. His first race at Mansfield in the NCTS came in 2005, driving the No. 66 Fiddle Back Racing Toyota Tundra. He started in the 11th spot and finished 16th. This weekend's race will also mark Todd's 47th career start in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

UPDATE: Jimmy Hager, father in-law of Mike Hillman, Jr., crew chief of the No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Toyota Tundra unexpectedly passed away Tuesday night. Jimmy, 72-years-old, was a big part of the Germain Racing family and will be deeply missed. Jimmy's son in-law, Mike Hillman Jr. will not be attending this weekends Mansfield race, as he will be home with his family.

Erin Crocker, No. 98 Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge We have made a ton of progress. The team is showing it and the results are showing in the race. We went to Charlotte with one of the best trucks out there and qualified very well. There were things I could have done better and there are things in the pits we need to work on. But from Daytona to Charlotte it is like a night and day difference. Patrick Donahue, Scott McDougal, and Ronnie Hornaday have done a great job putting things together. The team has really come together and it is something I say every week, but you can see it is in the results. I know going into Mansfield I will have a really good truck. I don’t know what to expect going there, because I have never been there or seen the track and I don’t have a lot of short track experience. We will go off how Martinsville went. Try to qualify well and stay out trouble and we should be good.” Crocker has never seen Mansfield the only other short track she has been on is Martinsville.

Auggie Vidovich, III, No. 6 Scotts Miracle-Gro Ford “I’m really excited to have this opportunity,” said Vidovich. “Jack Roush called and asked if I would drive the No. 6 Scotts Ford this weekend at Mansfield. It’s a great opportunity, and I’m thankful to be able to do it. I hope we can pull off a good finish on Saturday.” Vidovich was one of 25 drivers chosen from 1,776 applicants to participate in 2005’s Discovery Channel reality show “Roush Racing: Driver X.” He advanced from the first segment of the test at Martinsville Speedway to the second and third rounds at Darlington Raceway, ultimately finishing sixth in the competition.

Ted Musgrave, No. 9 Team ASE/Germain Toyota " Mansfield is a special track for Germain Racing because it's not too far from the Germain's hometown of Columbus, OH ," said Musgrave. "It would mean a lot to the family to get a win for Germain Racing at Mansfield. It's one of those tough short tracks that you have to be on your toes with. We are going to go out there and give it all have and try to bring home a win for the Germain's right in their backyard." The City of Mansfield 250 will be Ted's third NCTS career start at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway. It also marks Ted's 131st NCTS career start. Ted has started third in his two career starts at Mansfield and has led a total of 69 laps while running in the No. 1 Mopar Dodge. This will be Ted's first Mansfield start with Germain Racing.

Timothy Peters, No. 4 Dodge Motorsports Timothy Peters will be making his first Mansfield Motorsports Speedway start this weekend. Peters served as a crew member at Mansfield for the No. 4 Bobby Hamilton Racing Dodge in 2005. Peters will be driving the BHR chassis “Rocket” this weekend at Mansfield. The chassis ran at Charlotte, Kentucky, Memphis, IRP, Nashville, Bristol, Richmond, Las Vegas, Martinsville, Atlanta and Homestead with Peters behind the wheel in 2005. The Mansfield 250 at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway will mark Peters’ 24th NCTS career start.

Scott Lagasse, No. 04 Hemi Dodge Scott Lagasse, Jr. will be making his first-career start at Mansfield this weekend. Lagasse will be driving the BHR chassis “Butthead” this weekend at Mansfield. It will be “Butthead’s” 2nd start this season. The Mansfield 250 will mark Lagasse’s 5th NCTS career start.

Bobby Hamilton, Jr., No. 18 Fastenal Racing Dodge Bobby Hamilton Jr. will be making his fourth start in the No. 18 Fastenal Dodge in the Mansfield 250 at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway. Hamilton Jr. will be making his first start at Mansfield. The Mansfield 250 at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway will mark Hamilton Jr.’s 12th NCTS career start.
