PASS Race at Riverside Speedway (NH) Sunday is Canceled

(Naples, ME – June 3, 2006) - It rained at Riverside Speedway in Groveton, NH all day Saturday, and the pit area is extremely wet. With a very unfavourable weather forecast for continuing rain Sunday, it has been decided to cancel Sunday’s race program.

No word about rescheduling, so far...

Pre-Race Notes
All PASS teams are welcome to attend an open practice held on Saturday June 3rd prior to the scheduled event to be held on Sunday June 4th at 1:30 PM.

PASS Super Late Models as well as Riverside's own regular divisions will be welcome to participate in the practice sessions to be held between 12:00pm. and 4:00pm. respectively.

This open practice will be the final open practice available to PASS teams this season until the month of September.

Riverside PASS North Race Promises Some Action for the Fans
Tight, Tricky and Fast Oval Requires Full Attention from Drivers

NAPLES, ME (May 29, 2006) – Some racetracks are easier to drive than others. There are certain places where a driver can go and know that with a good handling car, he or she can set it on cruise control and ride around for a good finish.

Riverside Speedway in Groveton, New Hampshire is not one of those places. When the Pro All Star Series North Super Late Models visit the track on June 4th, everyone will have to work hard just to get to the finish – and work even harder to have a good finish.

That means a few drivers like going there, a few don’t, but some have both emotions.

“The first time that I went to Groveton, I hated the place,” recalls 2004 PASS champion Johnny Clark. “I thought it was horrible because it was so narrow. I’ll be honest, I was scared. When the green flag dropped for the feature, I changed my mind. I think we started fourth and I took the lead halfway through it. At that point, I said that it just might be my favorite track!”

The fact that Clark’s three starts there ended with two wins and a runner-up finish have helped sway his opinion. He’s sure that sitting in the grandstands during one of those action packed shows would sway it even more.

“It’s an awesome place with some good hard racing,” said Clark. “I would like to be in the grandstands there and watch our race. It’s tight. The guys are doing some grinding out there. There’s no doubt that they are seeing a great race. Our last race there, we got second and we led for three times. Rick Martin worked his butt off to win. We went three-wide on a track where you shouldn’t be able to go two-wide on. The lead changed four or five times over the last 25 laps. When I got out of the car, I had a big smile on my face and so did Rick Martin and Mike Rowe. We were the top three and had a lot of fun. Cassius and Ben were also running right with us. It was a great race.”

Mike Rowe remembers that race fondly, and compares the track to another bullring that PASS North visits.

“It’s a high-banked track,” said Rowe of Riverside, where he recorded a second and a third last season. “It’s a lot like White Mountain. Anyone who runs well there should run well at Riverside too. Rick Martin ran really well there last year. Hopefully, he’ll come back and we can have another good race with him. We’ve had some good races there too.”

Another good show should be in store this time out as well.

“That’s a pretty exciting place,” said 2005 PASS Most Popular Driver Travis Benjamin. “It’s a real short track with a lot of side-by-side racing there. It’s a little bit rough, but it’s a nice place to race. There’s good banking and you can put on a good race there. It can be hard to pass. You definitely want to be up front there, but I’ve also started in the back and worked my way up. If you’ve got a good car you can get around someone on the outside there. You’ve got to be very patient and try to ride to the end.”

Benjamin came close to winning his first PASS event at Riverside last season, but contact with another competitor while working his way through lapped traffic put the brakes on that. He’s hoping for redemption this time out.

“We’ve never finished well there, but we’ve always run well there,” said Benjamin. “In both races last year, we were either first or second when stuff happened. Those were the first two times that I raced there.”

The PASS North teams will compete at Riverside on June 4th with a post time of 1:30pm. The PASS Modifieds and Riverside Speedway Cyclones and Super Stocks will also be on the card.
