Harvick Wins at ORP for Fifth Busch Series Win of the Season

Kevin Harvick celebrates his win in the
Kroger 200 with a burnout for the fans.
CLERMONT, IN (August 5, 2006) - Kevin Harvick stretched his point lead to a whopping 374 markers over Carl Edwards with a win in the Kroger 200 benefitting the Riley Hospital for Children at O’ Reilly Raceway Park. Harvick came from sixth starting spot to dominate the event and pick up his fifth win of the season after early race leader and pole- sitter Denny Hamlin experienced problems with pit strategy. Hamlin led the first 85 laps of the race and waged a torrid duel with Harvick for many laps before the 2001 series champion took over the lead. Hamlin finished the event in eighth place. Front row starter Clint Bowyer looked like a strong contender but was taken out in a lap 23 incident with Ron Hornaday that sent Bowyer into the inside frontstretch wall. Bowyer came back to finish the race 91 laps down.

Reed Sorenson, battling a wicked case of swimmer’s ear, brought his Dodge home second. J.J. Yeley, Greg Biffle and Jeff Burton rounded out the top 5. Burton was making his return to ORP for the first time in over a decade and fared well after a 32nd starting spot. Series regular Danny O’Quinn came home sixth for his best career finish.
