CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Management for the inaugural Discover KIA Maritime Street Stock Showdown are thrilled to announce they have reached their goal of 44 entries for the event, set for June 24 at Oyster Bed Speedway. In order to accommodate the last entry the promoter, Tom Nicholls, withdrew his own car from the field.

“This race has two purposes for me,” said Nicholls. “To have a full field of cars and a full grandstand and to provide a positive experience for mainland cars in hopes they will return. So I withdrew my car to allow Chris Hanley from St. Stephen, NB to fill the field. The interest has been overwhelming.”

With 44 street stock cars on hand June 24, the pits at Oyster Bed Speedway will be overflowing on so Nicholls is in hopes that speedway management will consider giving one its three house divisions the night off.

“The fans would still get their money’s worth,” said Nicholls. “There would be more than 15 races and time trials.”

Track management will keep regular admission pricing for this event, even though it will feature lots of extras for the racers and the fans.

The Discover KIA Maritime Street Stock Showdown will see a purse of over $14,000 with $6,100 in contingency awards plus another $7,800 is cash payouts; the winner pf the 100-lap feature is guaranteed a minimum $1,500. The fans will enjoy the racing and the Fan Fun Zone with interactive activities throughout the event.

Thirty cars will start the feature with spots locked in through time trials and qualifying races.

Nicholls has started a wait list for competitors who want to run the event in case anyone already entered withdraws prior to race day.

“I just don’t see the sense in bringing in more cars at this point,” said Nicholls. “At 44 entered, we already have 14 that will go home. I want to be as fair as possible with the racers.”
