06.30.11: Lower Sackville, NS's Brad Eddy is back on track next week - literally. Eddy will resume his 2011 race season on July 4 Greenville Pickens Speedway in South Carolina, a 125-mile race paying $10k to win, and then on July 9 at Hickory Motor Speedway in North Carolina for a 100-lap race. Eddy will run his late model car in both races; he was forced to realign his schedule earlier this year after the North Carolina track he had planned to race at weekly unexpectedly and abruptly cancelled its weekly racing show.
06.30.11: Roush Fenway Racing has been informed that Crown Royal will not return as the primary sponsor of Matt Kenseth and the No. 17 NASCAR Sprint Cup team for the 2012 season. "We are obviously disappointed with the news, but first we would like to thank Diageo and Crown Royal for a terrific partnership that has spanned almost a decade," said Roush Fenway president Steve Newmark. "They have been a first-class partner all the way around. We look forward to finishing out the season with them on the No. 17 as Matt and the Crown Royal team continue to contend for another championship.
06.28.11: NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson has earned two nominations in The 2011 ESPYs co-presented by Capital One and Castrol EDGE, hosted by Seth Meyers. All nominations have been revealed and voting has begun, and the complete list of The 2011 ESPYs nominees is available for voters at espn.com/espys. Johnson, who won his fifth consecutive NASCAR championship in 2010, has again been nominated in the "Best Male Athlete" category and in the "Best Driver" category. He could become the first auto racer to win "Best Male Athlete" – also nominated are tennis star Rafael Nadal, Dirk Nowitzki of the NBA champion Dallas Mavericks and Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Joining Johnson in the "Best Driver" category are 15-time NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Funny Car champion John Force, NHRA Pro Stock champion Greg Anderson and three-time IZOD IndyCar Series champion Dario Franchitti.
06.28.11: Florida Governor Rick Scott will host a delegation of NASCAR and International Speedway Corporation executives, NASCAR drivers and racing legends this Wednesday evening, June 29 at the Florida Governor's Mansion in Tallahassee, Fla., in celebration of NASCAR's historical significance in Florida and its economic benefit to the state. The list of attendees includes NASCAR Chairman & CEO Brian France, International Speedway Corporation CEO Lesa France Kennedy, NASCAR President Mike Helton and fellow Florida residents and NASCAR drivers Juan Pablo Montoya, Brian Vickers, Joe Nemechek, and Ricky Carmichael. In addition, Joey Logano, 2011 Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne, and NASCAR legends and broadcasters Darrell Waltrip and Rusty Wallace will attend. A collection of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series show cars and a Daytona International Speedway pace car will be on display outside the mansion.

06.24.11: Michael Waltrip will honour his brother Darrell Waltrip at the July 9 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Kentucky Speedway, one of the races on "Mikey's" limited schedule this year. Michael's car will bear a vintage paint scheme to honour his brother's career and the recent announement he will be inducted to the NASCAR Hall of Fame next January.
06.23.11: Petty International Raceway has added the Bandolero division to its July 1 show. The scale-model cars will join the sportsman and 4-cylinders as part of the race card - which will accompany the headline act "Man the Daredevil" a stunt show. 06.22.11: Quebec's Jacques Villeneuve will make his first start of the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) season Saturday evening in the Bucyrus 200 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis. From 2006 to present, Villeneuve has made a total of five NNS starts. He has scored three top-10 finishes during that time and has also captured three top-five and two top-10 starting positions while competing in a limited NNS schedule over the last three years. This weekend will mark the first outing together for Villeneuve, the former Formula One champion and Indianapolis 500 winner, and crew chief, Todd Gordon. This is also the first race for Villeneuve with Penske Racing. He is scheduled to drive the No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge later this season at Montreal as well.
06.21.11: Lake Doucette Motor Speedway (between Yarmouth and Digby) is just days away from its 2011 season opener this Saturday (June 25). More than 25 4-cylinders are expected in the debut for that division; the race card will also feature the popular outlaw class. This is the first of four scheduled events for the facility this year.

06.20.11: All three Joe Gibbs Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams (with drivers, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Nad Joey Logano) may be subject to penalties this week after NASCAR found unapproved oil pans on their cars during pre-race inspection at Michigan. The teams were ordered to change the pieces back to models approved by the sanctioning body prior to qualifying and the race.

06.19.11: Avondale Speedway in NFLD has postponed their season opener for the third week in a row. Engine troubles with their grader have caused the further delay; they anticipate repairs being made this week.
06.19.11: Speedway 660 was forced to cancel its scheduled Saturday night show due to rain; they are back in action next Saturday with the Martin's Home Heating Sportsman 100.
06.18.11: Michigan International Speedway will be repaved for the fourth time in its history. Work to resurface the 43-year-old racetrack will begin immediately following this weekend's Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 with the repave of pit road. Repaving the rest of the track's two-mile oval racing surface will begin immediately following the August 19 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. The track was built in 1968. The track was repaved in 1977, 1986 and 1995.
06.17.11: Saint John's Lonnie Somemrville remains in third-place in the PASS North point standings, in spite of a disappointing race last weekend at Speedway 660. After three of 16 events Sommerville has 633 points, trailing point leader Ben Rowe (659) and second-place Johnny Clark (655). Travis Benjamin is fourth at 630 and Scott Chubbuck rounds out the current top five with 629 markers. Complete standings here. The series is back in action June 25 at L'Autordrome Chaudriere in Quebec, its second and last stop in Canada for 2011.

06.15.11:NASCAR announced Tuesday the No. 17 team that competes in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series has been penalized as a result of rules violations committed Saturday, June 11, at Delaware (Ont.) Speedway. The team was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-I (car, car parts, components and/or equipment used do not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20E-5.10.1A (Carburetor Eligibility: The carburetor must remain as supplied by the NASCAR-approved supplier – Unapproved carburetor modification to the venturi location, the encryption mark and the carburetor coating) of the 2011 NASCAR rule book. The violations were discovered during pre-race inspection on June 11. David Wight, crew chief of the No. 17 car, has been fined $2,500. Suspended from NASCAR until fine is paid. Placed on NASCAR probation for the next two (2) NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Events. Placed on NASCAR probation until July 13, 2011.

06.09.11: Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) will field a second car for five NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) races this season. Geoffrey Bodine will pilot the No. 35 Luke Associates, Inc. Chevrolet for all five events, starting with the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway (DIS) July 2nd. He will return to the Luke Associates, Inc.-sponsored Chevrolet at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Talladega Superspeedway, Texas Motor Speedway and the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Geoffrey Bodine made his NSCS debut in 1979. Over his 26-year NASCAR career, the Chemung, N.Y., native collected 18 wins, 100 top-fives and led over 8,600 laps. At age 62, Bodine ranks 16th all-time with 37 career poles.

06.06.11: NASCAR Statement Regarding Richard Childress and Kyle Busch Incident..."NASCAR has reviewed the incident involving Richard Childress and Kyle Busch after the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race Saturday at Kansas Speedway. We have met with all parties involved and have determined what happened yesterday is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by NASCAR. Richard Childress's actions were not appropriate and fell far short of the standard we expect of owners in this sport. We have met with Childress this morning and made our position very clear to him. Further, we expect he will make it clear to all in his organization to ensure this situation does not escalate any further. We will announce our actions regarding this incident Monday. Kyle Busch remains on probation with NASCAR and we continue to watch his actions carefully. However, we have determined that Kyle's involvement in this incident does not violate his probation and no further action is required."
06.05.11: The latest on the Childress/Busch altercation...Kyle Busch was interviewed during pre-race shows for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in Kansas...Busch said he and Childress have met with NASCAR about the incident, that he was not the agressor, and that he will respect whatever decision NASCAR makes after their investigation is complete. After Childress was chided by SPEED announcers for not speaking with them he sent a message stating that NASCAR had advised him not to discuss the altercation. Industry experts are expecting NASCAR will levy a significant fine to be against Childress for his actions later this week.
06.05.11: Several news sources are reporting an altercation between NASCAR driver Kyle Busch and NASCAR team owner Richard Childress (RCR) following Saturday's truck race in Kansas. Busch had battled RCR driver Joey Coulter for fifth in the closing laps with contact on the final lap. According to the reports Childress approached Busch about 30 minutes after the race and struck him with his fist; the two reportedly traded insults before Childress grabbed Busch and hit him again. NASCAR is investigating the incident.

06.05.11:Less than a week from starting on the pole in the Indianapolis 500, Alex Tagliani won the Keystone Light Pole Award for the inaugural NASCAR Canadian Tire Series event at Circuit ICAR in qualifying Saturday afternoon. Tagliani, from Lachenaie, Que., laid down a fast lap of 96.499 seconds (78.828 mph) in qualifying for Sunday's Grand Prix ICAR on the 15-turn, 2.113-mile road course. He took time out from his full-time job of racing in the IZOD IndyCar Series to return to his home province to compete in this first series event at Circuit ICAR in his No. 12 Hot Wheels Dodge. Sunday will mark his 14th start in the series and this was his third career pole having accomplished the feat at Montreal's Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and Circuit de Trois-Rivieres (Que.), both in 2009.
